Outside Fundraising and Tabling Policy
This policy governs all outside fundraising appeals, guest speakers, and informational tabling at The Downtown Denver Islamic Center – Masjid Al-Shuhada. Our goal is to support vital community initiatives and humanitarian efforts while ensuring that our community is not over-extended and maintaining an orderly, transparent, and fair process for all participating organizations.
General Principles & Scheduling
- Imam Coordination: All Jumu’ah Khutbah appeals and Taraweeh announcements must be scheduled in direct coordination with the Imam.
- Application Process: All interested organizations must complete and submit the official Google Form to be considered for fundraising slots or tabling space.
- Selection Basis: Approved slots are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to management review and the prioritization guidelines outlined below
Priority Guidelines for Jumu’ah Appeals
To balance the needs of local initiatives and established relief partners, Jumu’ah Khutbah fundraising slots are prioritized in the following order:
- Official Partner Organizations: Organizations with a recognized partnership with the Masjid (e.g., Islamic Relief USA, Furqan Foundation).
- Local & Regional Impact: Colorado-based organizations or national/international organizations that maintain active operations and programs within the state of Colorado.
- General External Organizations: All other qualified non-profit and charitable entities.
Allocation & Seasonal Restrictions
- Jumu’ah Khutbah Limit: Outside fundraising appeals during Jumu’ah Khutbahs are strictly capped at a maximum of 6 times per calendar year.
- Ramadan Restriction: To preserve the focus of the holy month on worship, reflection, and internal community programming, no Friday Khutbah fundraising appeals are permitted during Ramadan.
- Taraweeh Appeals: A maximum of 3 fundraising appeals are permitted during Taraweeh prayers over the course of Ramadan. These must likewise be coordinated directly with the Imam and scheduled via the application form.
Informational Tabling Guidelines
- Always Welcome: Setting up a table to share informational brochures, program details, and educational materials about your organization is warmly welcomed throughout the year.
- Management Approval: All informational tables require advance management approval and must be requested via the application form. Tables must be set up in designated areas only, ensuring they do not obstruct foot traffic or interfere with prayer spaces.
